Gearbox Identification
The Saracen FM gearbox comes in two variations; straight or cranked faceplate. The straight faceplate gearbox has a 20mm backset and the cranked one is 22mm backset. By identifying the correct faceplate type, you will automatically have the correct backset.
To determine the correct gearbox, firstly remove it from the window then inspect the tooth accepter plates at each end of the gearbox - the cranked faceplate will have 05058 stamped on it whilst the straight faceplate will be stamped 05060. Next, check the deadbolt throw size which is stamped on the end of the deadbolt (115 = 11.5mm or 095 = 9.5mm).
